Learning from bartending books is another great option for those who want to train from home, and have the disciple to keep up with it. There’s a massive number of bartending books out there that cover a large range of topics dealing with the craft. The only problem is finding the ones that will work best for you. No two bartending books are alike. Some are created as coffee table books, filled with pictures and some drink recipes. While others deal with small niche topics like those that you’d learn in different bartending schools. To date, we haven’t found a book that fully covers everything that you need to know to do the job. However, there’s some really nice drink recipe guides out there, that coupled with an online bartending program, can make you well rounded in the job or hobby.
Which Books are Good Options?
Jason: This is a toughy for me. I personally like to be more hands-on and take better to visual education methods. Give me a few pictures, a video, and I’ll have it learned right away. So, I asked a few of the people that I work with what they thought were good bartending books, and only a few titles were returned to me. Below are their recommendations. If you have purchased and read any other bartending books and would like to let me know your experiences, please do so! I’m always looking for feedback from you guys so that I can continue to offer the best examples for new visitors.

Below are pretty much the highest rated options, both with the bartenders I work with as well as on Amazon itself:
Best Cocktail Book, Hardcover/Paperback:
The Craft of the Cocktail
Pretty much the highest rated bartending book on Amazon, for good reason. This will teach you the history of the art, how to stock your bar with the right tools, pouring and mixing techniques, 500 of the top classic and fresh drink recipes, and all filled with beautiful pictures and instruction. If you’re looking to get into bartending as a hobby or you want a really great book to pick up on learning for the bar, this is a staple to your learning process. Although it comes in a kindle version, we highly suggest that you get the hardcover (which is only $0.50-$3.00 more), so that it can handle the wear and tear of you working, provide you with vivid printed images, and potentially be a conversation starter at your hobby bar. Definitely worth the investment no matter what your goal is with bartending. Price varies, anywhere from $18-22 at the time of this article.
Best Bartending Book, eBook/PDF:
Master Bartending Course:
Although the website may appear kind of plain, their 120+ page ebook teaches you all the skills needed to get you in and get you going. The person behind the book has over 15 years of experience, both from the bartending side, as well as a hiring manager side. He’s been a part of the online bartending community for quite a while, and has pretty much constructed this book based on all the questions, concerns, and needed skills that bartenders have had over the last decade. The best part for me is that you get all this for pretty much the cheapest that I’ve seen for any of the bartending books or programs out there, both physical and online. This book combined with the book above, will give you a well rounded learning experience that teaches you the art and science behind the craft. The normal price of the book is $47, but it’s currently being offered at a promotional price of $7. Yup, seven dollars, no cents.
